The Palm Deira - The final chapter in experiencing the extraordinary

This is the third and last development in The Palm series by Nakheel. The Palm, Deira will merge Dubai’s oldest district with the new iconic image of the palm. Located close to historic landmarks and trading ports of Deira Corniche, The Palm, Deira will be a revolutionary addition to the Dubai’s booming freehold property development market.

Similar in features to The Palm, Jebel Ali and The Palm, Jumeirah, this development will be the largest with an area encompassing 80 square kilometers. The size of The Palm, Deira is larger than Manhattan Island and Paris, roughly comparable to the area of Greater London.

The development will have 8,000 villas, townhouses,

and Sunset family homes serviced by top-class housekeeping facilities,

and will feature shopping malls, sports facilities, hotels, restaurants, retails outlets, clubs, public services and other luxury amenities. The residential complexes will be complemented by private and public beaches and marinas. Residential units are available for purchase by all nationalities on a freehold basis.

The Palm, Deira is made up of a trunk, a crown with 41 fronds and a surrounding crescent. It will measure 14 kilometers in length from the land to the tip of the crescent, and 8.5 kilometers in width from crescent to crescent. The fronds are of varying lengths with 400 to 840 meters of sea between each frond. The crescent, which will run for 21 kilometers, acts as a breakwater and is expected to be the largest in the world. 1 billion cubic meters of rock and sand will be quarried in the UAE to build the land mass of the island.

The location is just off the coast of Deira, 1.6 kilometers from the Sharjah border and 4 kilometers from international waters from the tip of the crescent. It is also located 6 kilometers from The World and will add 400 kilometers to Dubai’s shoreline. The surrounding area is home to Dubai’s key heritage sites and is close to downtown Deira.

CONSTRUCTION

  • There are three main stages to the construction process – reclamation, infrastructure construction and building construction.

  • Phase 1 – Reclamation involves sand transfer and rock placement to create the land foundations. During this period, an estimated 1 billion cubic metres of sand and rock from the UAE will be put in place for The Palm, Deira.

  • Phase 2 – Infrastructure Construction will include the construction of: Local Bridges, Flyovers; Waste Water Collection System; Storm Water Drainage System; Irrigation System; Domestic Water Supply Network; Piped Gas System; Telecommunications System; Sanitary Sewage System; Electrical Supply System; Chilled Water System; Roads; Streets; Marinas and Port Facilities; Fire Fighting System; Solid Waste Collection System; Services Access to crescent islands; Infrastructure Transportation and Landscape and Water Features.

  • Phase 3 – Building construction will include the construction of the residential, tourist, and commercial buildings.

  • The foundation rock used to build the breakwater is coming from quarries around the UAE. These are being taken to the site by large barges to minimise any disruption on land. The sand that will be used as fill will be dredged locally.

  • All construction will be carried out through the Marina to decrease traffic that may result from transporting large loads of materials.

  • Marine biologists are one of many specialist consultants present during the development of the islands. Generally, construction creates new habitats which attracts many species of fish and birds – as has been witnessed already in the construction carried out to date on the crescent breakwater of The Palm, Jumeirah and The Palm, Jebel Ali. It is expected the reclamation of the island will enhance the local wildlife population, including tropical fish.
